As well as some magnificent original early recordings, you will learn about:
- the many similarities in the background of Australia’s two $100 note-ables: Melba and Sir John Monash;
- the story of Melba’s father, architect David Mitchell, and his legacy in Melbourne;
- Melba’s association with Coldstream, in the Yarra Valley;
- Melba’s marriage and her boyfriends;
- Mathilde Marchesi and the Bel Canto method of singing;
- The two Melba-Williamson opera seasons in Australia – 1911 and 1924;
- John Norton, the muck-raking editor of the Melbourne Truth newspaper and the scandalous things that he said about Melba;
- Some ways in which Melba is still remembered today.
