JAMES SCOTT’S ROYAL NURSERIES – Michele Adler

James Scott’s nursery, By Appointment to His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, was in Burwood Road from 1853; its greenhouses, ferneries and nursery grounds, a wonder to behold. James Scott also chose the site for the Burnley Gardens and, no doubt supplied much of the stock.

Michele Adler is the immediate past President and Honorary Life Member of the Friends of Burnley Gardens, Richmond. The first 20 years of her career was as a pharmacist. Then she fell in love with horticulture and worked for over 30 years as a university lecturer and researcher at the University of Melbourne – Burnley Campus. She is also a journalist, author and television and radio presenter.

Her book about the Burnley Gardens it is at the pre-publication stage and hopefully will be available by end 2019.
